Fred Opie launched his Opie Theater on April 23, 1918 with D.W. Griffith’s “The Heart of Humanity”. Father O'Reilly was there to open the theater with an address which also was in support of the Victory Loan as World War I carried on. The Opie Theater made Mineral Point a three theater town with the city-run Municipal Theatre and the competing World Theatre already established in 1916.
Curtis J. Foster took on the venue on May 14, 1920 under the name of Foster’s Palace Theatre playing First National studio films and launching with D.W. Griffith’s “The Big Question”. His Palace Theatre appears to have closed early in 1923 with the World Theatre and Municipal Theatre hosting the local film bookings into the sound era. The former theatre was converted for other retail purposes.
