Harry Freeman and Adam Lesmesiter launched the Star Theatre on Central Avenue in Fairfield on December 16, 1950 with Don Dailey in “When Wille Comes Marching Home”. The 320-seat theatre had RCA sound and a cry room. Lesmesiter upgraded the venue to widescreen to accommodate the presentation of CinemaScope films. The first such film shown was on October 26, 1954 with “Broken Lance” starring Spencer Tracy.
The Star Theatre closed in February of 1981 and was listed for sale. Mike and Mary Dietz relaunched the Star Theatre on May 12, 1984. The Star Theatre closed May 3, 1986 with “Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation”. It was listed for sale and became a church that gave the former theatre a new front. It was still in operation in the 2020’s.
