Rex

The Casino was built in 1920 and contained a cinema, dance hall and restaurant. It was demolished and the 1,000-seat Rex was built on the site in 1953. It was renovated in 1966. Big films such a “Earthquake” played the Rex, which, for this film was equipped with Sensurround sound. In the summer of 1979 it went over to screening adult pornographic films and the Rex was closed in 1982. It was demolished in 1984.

A large glass faced building containing office space, shops & housing now stands on the site.
