The city of Roosevelt’s first indoor theatre was the Bessie Theatre. The theatre opened as the Elan Theatre sometime in early-1915, but the earliest information I can find about the Elan Theatre is an early February 1915 sponsorship and a story on a special/sporting event that happened near the amusement hall at the Elan dated days earlier while the theatre was still under construction. It was finished a month later in March 1915 when Mr. Kelley (the theatre’s contractor) saying that he’s unable to finish up with the account on not being able to get lumber. While the theatre continued to be constructed, people can see boards of upcoming films or events at the amusement hall of the Elan. It became the city’s first picture show theatre at the time after it was constructed.
In the wintertime 1916, the Elan Theatre was contemporarily held during the city’s commercial club. Unfortunately, only 25 members attended it.
The Elan Theatre closed its doors for the final time in April 1917. The City of Roosevelt’s library was later in the site. Approximately 2 months later, a new theatre was attracted called the Newtuck Theatre.
