Located in the upmarket Consolacao district of the city. The Cine Majestic was opened on 11th July 1947 with Merle Oberon in “Temptation”. Seating was provided for 1,300 in orchestra & balcony levels. On 24th August 1967 it was renamed Majestic Cinerama opening with a 70mm presentation of “Grand Prix” starring James Garner. It was operated by Cinematografica Serrador. A new screen was installed and the projectors were by Phillips 70mm/35mm. On 28th March 1985 it was taken over by Gaumont Brazil and re-named Gaumont Majestic, screening “2010- The Year We Make Contact”. It was closed on 23rd February 1992.
The cinema was gutted and converted into a 3-screen cinema with seating for 282, 240 & 180. The architects for the conversion were Pablo Cesar Benetti & Solange Libman. Operated by the Cinearte Circuit it reopened on 6th October 1993 and began screening art-house films, with sponsorship from banks which changed their names.
