Originally opened on 5th June 1880 as the Palais de Cristal, a live theatre. In 1927 it was re-named Colisee. In 1929 it was given a splendid Art Deco style makeover to the plans of architects Jean Charavel & Marcel Melendes and reopened as the 2,200-seat Pathe Palace. Seating was provided in orchestra and two balcony levels. In December 1936 it was converted into 3-screens with seating for 500, 750 & 350, reopening as Marseille Matin. On 25th June 1944 it was bombed.
It was rebuilt a few years later. In 1971 it was converted into 7-screens, re-opening in July 1971 as K7. It screened family films (Walt Disney) as well as pornographic films. It was closed in 1985 and was demolished. A modern building housing the legal Department of the University of Marseille now stands on the site.
