The first movie house in Wymore was the Rex Theatre. In 1908, A.P. Ake opened Ake’s Lyric Theatre in the Fenton Block which may have contained the Rex Theatre, as well. Ake would move to Kansas City reportedly to open a theatre there in 1915.
The theatre was still named Lyric Theatre in 1914. R.W. Small and Harvey H. Dimmitt took on the venue renaming it the Casino Theatre relaunching on March 1, 1915 with D.W. Griffith’s “Enoch Garden". The operators upgraded to a new Motiograph projector in 1916. Dimmitt soon moved the operation to the Wymore Opera House in 1916 and the Fenton Block was retrofitted for a grocery store.
