The Loup City Opera House was destroyed by fire in 1899. Tent theatre season productions became popular at the turn of the Century. But Thomas Daddow changed that when he built the Daddow Opera House in 1914 which contained the Dreamland Theatre and may have served as a home for the Knights of Pythias lodge which staged live shows there.

A.G. Hunt and his son, Arthur, took on the venue a one-year sublet in 1916 renaming it the Garland Theatre for the short leasing period. Daddow resumed operations the following year and settled on the popular World War I name of the Liberty Theatre which the theatre held for decades.

In 1922, Martenas J. Biemond took on the operation and converted it to the Filmaphone sound system starting on April 21, 1929 with Ramon Novarro in “The Flying Fleet”. Biemond would also open the new-build Ord Theatre less than 30 miles away in Ord in May of 1931. In 1938, Sal Slominski (referred to as Sol and Saul in trade publications), took on the Liberty Theatre and the theatre was still operating in downtown Loup City into the 1960’s.

The January 30, 1913 issue of The Loup City Northwestern had an advertisement with this text: “Eugene Perry Offers His Excellent Drama In Four Acts ‘Kidnaped [sic] For a Million’ With The Four Perrys and Company One Night Only, Feb. 5, 1913 Daddow Opera House”

The Daddow Theatre is listed in the 1914 edition of Gus Hill’s Theatrical Directory as a 650-seat, ground floor house. The stage was only 28 feet wide and 22 feet deep. The only house listed at Loup City in the 1912-1913 Cahn guide is called the Gem, which has only 260 seats, also on the ground floor.
