The Mexican Revolution of 1910 led to a refugee surge in Crystal City as Mexican migrant workers were lured by agricultural jobs including the area’s famous spinach industry. This led to multiple movie theaters operating for Spanish-language audiences and one for English speaking audiences.
José Luna took on the Teatro Nacional in 1935 running until his death in 1946. Ignacio “Nacho” Luna and Carolina Luna took on Teatro Nacional and, in honor of José, renamed it Teatro Luna. Son Tino would drive a car around town to announce new features on a loudspeaker.
