Town Hall

Ansonia’s pretty little town hall was constructed in 1883, and it included an opera house on the second floor.

The 1915 Sanborn still shows this as an opera house, but by 1927, movies are being shown. The theatre remains in operation on the 1951 map, and seems to have remained the sole source of movies in this small town.

Today the building is mostly vacant and threatened by neglect. Part of the ground floor appears to be in use as community offices.

John Fryberger of the Toledo-based Spitzer and Co. was the architect for this structure.
