The Dixie Theatre in downtown Burleson was its first movie theatre said to be opened in 1920. However, it may have opened earlier as the Palace Theatre. The Dixie Theatre converted to sound under operator Emmet Harris. It was then updated by operator Mrs. Clarence Wilson in 1945. In the summer of 1948, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wilson closed the venue.
Don’t look for the building in downtown Burleson. That’s because Mr. and Mrs. Wilson had the entire building put on a flatbed truck and moved the Dixie Theatre equipment and concession equipment by truck 14 miles away to Forest Hill, near Fort Worth reopening there. Give C.A. Snow of Weatherford credit for moving the building and the local state highway patrol were along the route in case there were problems.
The newly located theatre became the Forest Theatre while the Wilsons had new plans drawn up for another theatre in Burleson.
