This opera house was built around 1892, when the Sanborn map shows the building with a note: ‘To be opera house’. The front was 3 stories with a peaked roof. The façade was brick, with some fine stone Romanesque details. The auditorium was 1-2 stories. The stage was sharply bowed out, and the balcony had a concave front mirroring the curvature of the stage. The entry was a wide hallway between two small stores.
The theatre was destroyed by fire on February 6, 1914. The location is currently one of those little parks that dwindling towns put where buildings used to be.

The Alexandria Opera House is listed in the 1897-98 Julius Cahn Official Theatrical Guide. H.V. Otto was Mgr. The house, which was on the ground floor, had 754 seats. The proscenium opening was 22 feet high X 24 feet wide, and the stage was 27 feet deep. There was both gas and electric illumination. 8 musicians in the house orchestra. There were 3 hotels for show folk, and the 1897 population was 8,000.
