The Horseheads Theatre was built in 1944 by the Ryan Brothers (John, James and William) who built and operated other theatres and drive-ins in the Southern Tier of New York State. The theatre changed hands in 1949 and operated mostly at a loss until 1955, when it closed and the building was repurposed as a supermarket, then a day-care center, and finally an auto parts store. As of 2020, the building is occupied by a NAPA auto parts dealer.
