Located in the city center at the main Railway Station, Bochum. The Bahnhofslitschspiele Bali was opened in 1957 as a newsreel cinema with 365-seats, all on a single floor. The 50-minutes programme was screened in a loop from the morning to the late-evening. The programme containe 3 different newsreels, a cartoon and a short subject. The Bali was operated by Franz Roder Bahnhofskino Gesellschaft GmbH. The FH 66 projectors were by Frieske & Hoepfner and a 4-channel stereophonic sound system by Telefunken was installed. In the 1970’s action and adult movies were screened. In 1978 it was taken over by Franz Rothschild.
In 1982 it was re-named Metropolis im Hauptbahnhof and was operated by Hans Georg Rehs. The programming was changed to art-house movies. In 1986 the MBS Kino GmbH took over the operation and the cinema was programmed by Michael Meyer. In 2013 the cinema was renovated and the capacity of seats was reduced to 200. At the same time the Schauburg Gelenkirchen took over the operation. The Metropolis im Hauptbahnhof is a member of the Europa Group of art-house cinemas and Gilde deutscher Filmkunsttheater/AG Kino Interessengesellschaft.
