The Star Theatre first appears on the July 1909 Sanborn as a ‘5¢ Theatre’. It was operating in the corner storefront of the old opera house building, which was constructed sometime before 1885. At this point, the opera house (which was on the upper floors) was disused. In 1902, the space was used by a wholesale grocer.
The Star Theatre remained in operation at least until 1922. Later maps are not available online. At some point around 1960, the building received a hideous slipcover. The storefront once occupied by the theatre is now a home décor store.

As I understand Joe Vogel’s research, this can’t have been the Fairview. The theater on E Sycamore was still operating at this point.
The 1912-1913 Kokomo city directory has a listing for the “Star Theatre, Etta M. Albaugh propr, 127 N. Buckeye.” The Star is not listed in the 1914-1915 American Motion Picture Directory, so if it was operating in 1916 it might have closed for a while and then reopened.
The November, 1922 issue of trade union journal American Federationist lists the Star Theatre as one of four Kokomo movie houses whose managers had signed agreements with musicians and projectionists. The Victory, Pictureland and Strand were also operating with union contracts, while workers at the Isis, Grand and Colonial were on strike.
Thanks for finding a name for this!
