The Orpheum Lichtspiele was opened in 1910 and was operated by Heinrich Assauer & Co. It was one of the first purpose-built cinemas in Dortmund. In 1920 it was re-named Residenz Lichtspiele. In 1927 it was renamed Orpheum - Residenz Lichtspiele. In 1943 the cinema was destroyed by Allied bombs during World War II.
Around 1952/1953 a new Orpheum Lichtspiele was built on this site and was operated by Josef Paul & Herbert Schleicher. It was designed by architect an de Brugge. The seats were by Kamphoener and the projectors were by Frieske & Hoepfner.
The cinema was closed after 1971. It has since been demolished and the site is now a car park for the adjacent auto repair store.
