Rex Filmtheater Reineckenforf Ost

Located in the Reinickendorf Ost district in the outer northwest of the city. The Burgergarten Lichtspiele was opened in 1927 and was operated by Paul & Otto Wernitz. It was designed by architect Leopold Ostrowski In 1931 a TobiKlangfilm sound system was installed. In 1934 it was re-named National Theater. In 1936 Johannes Betzel took over the operation and the cinema was re-named Rex Filmtheater Reinickendorf Ost. It was closed in 1941 due to wartime conditions.

Due to damage done by Allied bombs during World War II, architect Bruno Meltendorf was commissioned to prepare plans for a restoration. It was re-opened in 1952. The B 5 projectors were by Bauer. In 1957 a CinemaScope screen was installed. In 1961 Klaus Runge took over the operation.

In 1965 the Rex Filmtheater was closed and demolished. It was replaced by a car showroom and later by a kindergarden.
