The New Theatre was opened on 17th April 1911. It was altered in 1926 and reopened as the New Princess Theatre. Further alterations were carried out in 1935 and it was re-named Princess Theatre. It suffered damage from a fire in the 1940’s. It was operated by Kerridge-Odeon. In its later years it was operated by the same independent operators as the nearby Roxy Theatre. In 1911, architects William Crichton and James McKay converted the Federal Hall/Old Federal Billard Saloon and it reopened as the New Theatre. It later became known as the Princess Picture Theatre in 1920, a name it retained until it closed in 1975, and it was demolished in 1976 when they extended adjacent Farish Street.
