Cinema Drive-In

The Parkway Drive-In was located behind the Theater Motor Lodge. Opened on May 2, 1952 with Steve Cochran in “The Tanks are Coming” & Rod Cameron in “Oh! Susanna”. I was operated by Norman Bonneau, it first appears in a 1956 topological map. On April 28, 1967 it reopened as the Cinema Drive-In. Apparently Norman owned both the drive-in and the motel, he wired the film sound to the rooms so his guests could also watch if they chose to. I can’t find any visual evidence from aerial photos of the actual drive-in but the motel still exists, now called The Black Mountain Inn. The Cinema Drive-In was closed in 1972. The drive-in itself appears to have been demolished.

Is the Theater Motor Lodge still there?

Yes but it’s now called The Black Mountain Inn.
