Theatre

The 1907 Sanborn shows a theatre operating in the southern storefront of a 2-story commercial building. This building was constructed before 1885, and on the 1900 map the location was home to a cigar store. This theater was short-lived, and by 1914, the storefront housed a 5 & 10.

While it was a theatre, the address was 116 S. 2nd Street, but around 1922, odds and evens switched sides. The building, with some unfortunate remodels, is today home to a firm that sells uniforms and gear for emergency services.

“Theater” doesn’t necessarily indicate a “cinema.” If the site was a cigar store by 1900, film connection may never have existed.

It absolutely was a movie theater. I have no idea what the prior occupancy has to do with whether it could have been or not.
