Cherokee Drive-In front

The Cherokee Outdoor Theater held an open house on May 26, 1953 followed by the Grand Opening the next evening with Yvonne De Carlo in “Hotel Sahara” & Dane Clark in “Fort Defiance”, and two color cartoons. It was owned by W. B. (Bill) Goates, and it was on Highway 149. In September 1955, Kenny Morris took over what became the Cherokee Drive-In. By October 1959, the Longview News-Review referred to the site as “the old Cherokee Drive-In”. A Walmart occupies the site today.

The 1955 Motion Picture Almanac included the Cherokee Drive-In, capacity 600, owner W. B. Goates. By 1962, the owner had changed to K. Morris. It fell off the MPA drive-in list in 1966.

After property sat vacant for many years, a Wal-Mart was finally built on the property around 2008.
