The opening date of this 5-screen cinema is unknown. It was operated by the Boyd family. It was destroyed by a tornado on November 10, 2002. All patrons inside the theatre were taken to the safety of the sturdier built lobby and restrooms areas. One man was killed due to him being unable to get out of his car in time. The tornado also destroyed the adjacent Ridgeway Drive-In and the Boyd family home.
The Van Wert Cinemas was rebuilt and reopened in 2004 with “The Incredibles” & “Polar Express”. It was operated by Boyd Theater Circuit. By 2025 it was operated by Saunders Theater Properties.
