Plaza Cinema

Located in the village of St. Dennis, Cornwall. The Cinema was opened by Frank Charles Elgar in 1927. The 300-seat Cinema presented pictures & variety. In the early-1930’s it was equipped with a British Thompson-Houston(BTH) sound system and it was re-named Plaza Cinema. It had an 18ft wide proscenium. In the 1940’s it was operated by Cornwall Cinemas and by the 1950’s it was operated by Duchy Cinemas, with the seating capacity reduced to 275. In 1948 it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound syatem.

In the mid-1950’s it was equipped with CinemaScope and the 20ft wide screen was placed in front of the original proscenium. The Plaza Cinema was closed in 1962. It was demolished and a garage/petrol station was built on the site, which still operates in 2020.
