The Central Picture House was opened by Percy Newbold in August 1915. By 1927 it had been re-named Central Picture Theatre and was operated by the Provincial Cinematograph Theatres Ltd.(PCT) chain. It was equipped with a Fitton & Haley 2 Manual 12 Ranks organ. By 1929 it had been taken over by the Hull Cinemas Ltd. chain who were based in the Cecil Theatre, Hull. It was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system and the proscenium was 25 1/2ft wide.
The Central Picture Theatre was destroyed by German bombs in the blitz on Hull on 7th & 8th May 1941. Hull Central Library now stands on the site.
