Empress Cinema

Located in Willington, County Durham. The Empress Theatre was built on the site of the old Parish Hall by the Hately Brothers and opened in September 1927 with a concert on the stage. Designed by architects Kellet & Clayton of Bishop Auckland & Darlington. Seating was provided in stalls circle levels. The projection box was at the rear of the stalls. The proscenium was 24ft wide, the stage was 24ft deep and there were four dressing rooms.

The Empress Cinema was closed by the Hately Brothers in 1969. It became a bingo club. It has been demolished and the site is a vacant grassed area.
