City Base Cinemas Now Open Near Kenwood Towne Centre, with Two Virtual Reality Rooms and Full Bar Of course, these days a movie theater can’t just be a movie theater and City Base Cinemas is no exception.

A new movie theater has opened near the Kenwood Towne Centre — and this one includes heated seats, virtual reality rooms and a full bar.

City Base Cinemas opened July 29 in The Kenwood Collection (that building where Whole Foods and Crate & Barrel are), featuring 12 auditoriums, one of which is reserved for private parties.

Of course, these days a movie theater can’t just be a movie theater and City Base Cinemas is no exception; it has all the bells and whistles audiences have come to expect from modern movie-going.

The 11 public auditoriums have heated seats that recline, as well as swivel tables. Guests can order food and drinks from a special service button on the side of their chairs.

Concessions include more than 40 different draft beers — including local brews — plus wine and cocktails. If you don’t feel like drinking while you watch your film, you can also just hangout in the fully furnished bar and lounge.

In terms of eats, the menu includes popcorn and candy as well as actual food “including appetizers, entrées, desserts… made in-house at the time of ordering for maximum freshness,” says a release.

The private theater goes bigger with club chairs, ottomans, a private bar and lounge, a pool table and a magnetic Scrabble wall. It is located upstairs and overlooks the main lobby, but can be totally sealed off with a retractable wall. (When private parties aren’t using the space, the public is welcome to drink in the lounge up there.)

They also promise two virtual reality rooms. (We’ve emailed to clarify what exactly a virtual reality room is…)

“We’re incredibly excited about all the state-of-the-art amenities we have to offer, from the heated seats in the theaters to the virtual reality rooms,” said managing partner Sarah Williams in the release. “We feel like we can be the premier entertainment destination for the entire Kenwood community and beyond.”

The theater is also giving away free popcorn to five people during a contest that runs Aug. 1-31. Participants must be 21 or older and have to sign up for the City Base Cinemas Kenwood newsletter. Five winners will be chosen to receive one free popcorn voucher per week from Sept. 16, 2021 though Sept. 30, 2022.

City Base Cinemas has one other location, in San Antonio, Texas.

City Base Cinemas Cincinnati is located at 5901 East Galbraith Road, Suite 200, Kenwood. More info, movies and movie times available at citybasecinemas.com.

Please fix the desciption, the theatre opened on July 29, 2021 as the City Base Cinemas-Kenwood and renamed the Kenwood Theatre soon after.

I’ve uploaded the newspaper articles in the photos section, this replaced the original Kenwood Theatre that closed March 21, 2021 which has it own page on Cinema Treasures.
