News About This Theater

AMC River East 21, Chicago, IL

This theater opened November 1, 2002, one block over from the late, great McClurg Court Cinemas. The new twenty one screen movie theater is equipped with 3,281 stadium seats, digital picture, closed captioning/DVS, digital surround sound, automated box office and a VIP special events program. By December 2024 it had been equipped with larger seats which reduced the total seating capacity to 1,661.

I’m flying to Chicago next week and I’ll probably catch “Atomic Blonde” on the new Dolby Cinema screen they have here

@darquil, Hello! Can I use your method to know the seating capacity of other theaters? Where can I gather the box office attendence information or is there any other source that can help with identifying seating capacity? Thank you!

My guess is by counting the seats on the reserved seating chart that appears when you attempt to buy tickets on their websites. That’s the only way I’m aware of short of personally visiting the site or somehow finding that information with the fire marshal.

The theatre ticketing site or fandango if they are reserved seating. I’ve been doing my town for years when I ask or got from theatre employee schedules. Over the recent year with a lot of theatres going reserve seating, you could count the seats with the theatre ticketing site or Fandang. Fandango gives screen numbers, AMC site only the seat map until purchased. Other chains like Regal and Cinemark list the screen number.

My concern if I never went to the theatre, is actualy how the screen size is and digital sound. I realy wish theatres would list if the film is Dolby 5.1 or 7.1 or the format.

I understand their is DTS X, but haven’t seen one theatre saying it shows DTS;X.
