There were two Lyric Airdomes in downtown Muskogee and both on W. Broadway in close proximity to the Lyric Theatre and the Turner Hotel. The first opened in 1906 and was torn down in 1908 to make way for the Corbut-Pace Building. This one was opened on June 3, 1908 at 325 W. Broadway across from the Turner Hotel. Both Lyric Airdomes served as summer homes for the Lyric Theatre which was likely too hot to be enjoyable in the summer months.
Live entertainment plus motion pictures using the Lyriscope projection were featured at the Lyric Airdomes. The “new” Lyric Airdome competed with the Olympic Airdome and Wigwam Airdome in downtown. But the land became too valuable as developers purchased the venue in 1912. Its final shows were on September 18, 1912 and the Airdome was razed making way for the Phoenix Building skyscraper (now known as the Manhattan Building), a mainstay in downtown Muskogee. Meanwhile, improved ventilation at the Lyric Theatre kept it open year round and viable until 1948 when it was ostensibly supplanted by the new Roxy Theatre.
