The genesis of this theatre dates back to 1907 and the launch of the 200-seat Star Theatorium in the Weeks Building at 208 E. 2nd Street which launched February 11, 1907. It was operated by W.A. Hunter and was the third movie theatre behind the Electric Theatre which had opened in 1905 and the New Theatre. On March 14, 1908, the Star Theotorium became the Odeon Theatre run by the Odeon Theatre Circuit which had many other Odeon Theatres in Oklahoma.
In 1912, the Odeon announced it would move nearby to improve the experience for its clients. On May 8, 1913, the 1,000-seat New Odeon Theatre launched at 316 S. Johnstone Avenue. It programed 3 vaudeville acts and three movies. The theatre was expanded including a new Hope-Jones $18,000 pipe organ in November of 1922. It was closed on August 24, 1929. It reopened as a talkie theatre on December 25, 1925 with Will Rogers in “They Had to See Paris” The theatre closed in 1939 and the business and the name Odeon was transferred to the former Liberty Theatre (later Arrow Theatre which has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The original Odeon Theatre building has been demolished in favor of a parking lot.

In 1922, a Hope-Jones pipe organ was installed to improve silent film presentations. Sound was added to the venue. But the original Odeon Theatre closed on June 30, 1939 with “Tarzan Finds a Son” citing end of lease. The operators then moved its future bookings “temporarily” to the Liberty Theatre beginning on July 1, 1940 with “Confessions of a Nazi Spy.”
