Ray and Jeaneva Hallett opened Poplar Street Cinemas on October 18, 1985. The theatre was later operated by Plitt Amusements until their bankruptcy in January 1999, leaving Walla Walla without a theatre for several months. Soon after, Hallett Cinemas resumed operations of Poplar Street Cinemas until its closing in 2000 when Hallett Cinemas opened the 12-screen Grand Cinemas several blocks down the road.
