Located in the Uhlenhorst district to the northeast of the city. The Ufa Mundsburg Theater was opened in 1931 with 1,473 seats. It was operated by Univerum Film Aktiengesellschaft (Ufa). The auditorium was underground in the basement of an apartment building, so it was not damaged during World War II. After 1945 it was re-named Mundsburg Theater.
In 1957 it was modernised to the plans of Architect Giesbier and reverted back to its Ufa Mundsburg Theater name. Also in 1957 it was equipped for CinemaScope with a screen 10x4 meters, and 4-channel stereophonic sound by Zeiss Ikon. It closed as a cinema in 1962.
In 1964 it re-opened as a live theatre named Junges Theater, with a reduced seating capacity of 730. In 1973 it was re-named Ernst Deutsch Theater and is the largest privately owned live theatre in Germany.
