One of C. Howard Crane’s earlier Detroit theater designs, the Ferry Field Theatre opened August 27, 1916 and seated 1,325. In September 1934, it was renamed the Beacon Theatre, but only operated three more years before closing.

The September 16, 1916, issue of The Moving Picture World said that the Ferry Field Theatre had opened on August 31. The theater was decorated in the Spanish Renaissance style.
