Deutsches Volkstheater

Located in the St. Pauli district of the city centre. The Deutsch Reichshalle Kinomatographentheater was opened on 2nd November 1910. It was operated by Franz Glowalla. In 1919 it was sold to Eberhard Knoph who operated Knopf’s Theater lebender Photographien (Knopf’s Theatre of Living Pictures) nearby at Spielbudenplatz 19 and it was re-named Deutsches Volkstheater.

In 1922 Eberhard Knopf decided to merge the two cinemas into one big 1,055-seat auditorium, named Knopf’s Lichtspielhaus. The Deutsches Volkstheater portion being partly demolished. The complex later became a live music venue named the Docks Music Hall. (with its own page on Cinema Treasures).
