Located in the Mitte district in the south east of the city centre. Originally on this site (with its entrance at Spitalerstrasse 7) was the Schauburg am Hauptbahnhof which was destroyed by allied bombs in 1943 (It has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
The Die Barke was built and opened in 1952. It was equipped with Bauer B12 projectors and the loudspeaker and sound equipment was by Klangfilm". It was twinned in the 1970’s and re-named Die Barke & Barkerol.
It was closed and demolished in 1987.
