The Cinema Rex was opened by 1940 and was still open in 1969. A once-popular Roman cinema in the Trieste neighborhood that was demolished sometime after 1997. A bank now stands on the site.

On August 23, 1969 I went here to see Visconti’s “The Leopard” (Il gattopardo). The 1963 film was making its rounds across Italy again in its original version. The uncut version would not play in the U.S. for almost another 20 years.
The Rex was demolished after 1997.
Fellini’s “La Dolce Vita” opened here and at the Cinema Fiamma on February 3, 1960.
On May 18, 1940 the Rex ran two films: “Fanfulla da Lodi” with Germana Paolieri and “Il segreto inviolabile” with Maria Mercader.
