This drive-in, located on Waltonville Road, opened on June 2, 1949 with Maria Montez in “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves”. It could accommodate 500 cars. It was operated byFrank Glenn and later by the Kerasotes chain. The theater closed in 1983, and has been mostly demolished, except for the concession stand and ramps.

I would love to see this place restored and re-opened. I live in Mt.Vernon and would love to see this piece of history come back to life.
People are starting to take a new interest in these old thesters and statistics are showing more people are going to drive-ins.

I also miss the old Drive-In. The last movie I can remember watching at the Mt.Vernon Drive-In was Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I don’t think the theater could reopen in the same location but it would be nice to have a drive in in the area again.

A more accurate address for this theater is 12076 IL-148, Mt Vernon, IL 62864. This points directly to the entrance road.
