Located in the city centre on Avenida Francisco I. Madero, the Greek Revival style Teatro Lirico (Lyric Theatre) opened in 1922 as a single screen cinema. Seating for possibly 1,500 was provided in orchestra & balcony levels and it has a large stage house. It was remodeled in an Egyptian style in 1946 to the plans of architect Arturo Oliver Cedeno. Later twinned, it was closed in 1997. The building is vacant and ‘For Sale’ in 2018.
