The Eastdale Shopping Center opened theatre-less in 1964. A franchised location of United General Theater Circuit launched the automated Eastdale Theater on May 10, 1972 with “Cougar Country” and “Wilderness Journey”. The family-friendly theatre featured G-rated films at 65 cents admission. When United General went out of business, the theater went independent before Commonwealth Theatre Circuit took on the location in May, 1974. In 1988, Commonwealth sold out to United Artists. UA decided not to renew the theater’s lease and the Eastdale Theater closed on September 22, 1992 fulfilling a 20-year lease.
