Why is Cineplex keeping this one open despite not being too far away from Cineplex Odeon Devonshire Mall?
Cineplex announced today they’re closing SilverCity Windsor— they won’t renew the lease which supposedly expires at the end of the year.
The landlord reports they’ve been informed by Cineplex that SilverCity Windsor is now permanently closed.
They also report Cineplex has started stripping the building, including some property like seats which they feel belongs to them, the landlord.
They’ve asked Cineplex to halt this stripping process until they can have a discussion but will file legal action to block it if necessary.
This cinema’s opening movies include Scream 2, FairyTale: A True Story, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Flubber, The Jackal, The Rainmaker, Bean, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Alien: Resurrection. The IMAX theatre’s first film was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in IMAX 3D. According to some reports about this cinema’s closure, people, even before the pandemic, were going more to the nearby Cineplex Odeon Devonshire Mall because of the recliner seats, D-BOX, and UltraAVX. Cineplex is now talking with IMAX about relocating SilverCity’s installation to Devonshire Mall.
This cinema’s final films include A Journal for Jordan, American Underdog, ‘83 (Hindi w/EST), Sing 2 (also in 3D), The King’s Man, The Matrix: Resurrections, Spider-Man: No Way Home (also in 3D and IMAX), Nightmare Alley, Shava Ni Girdhari Lal (Punjabi w/EST), West Side Story, and Encanto.
