Built in 1905 and opened on November 3, 1905 to host live performances, Wessington Springs' opera house was converted to a movie theatre in 1912 and showed silent films until 1917.

The building became Wessington Springs' fire hall in the 1920’s and eventually fell out of use by the 1960’s. In 1994, the Dunham Historical Society purchased the building for $1 to restore it.

Springs Cinema organized in May 2010 with the purpose of creating and running a movie theatre and bought a projector, screen and other equipment and installed it at the 1905 Opera House.

The 1905 Opera House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
