The book “Broken Bow: The First Century” (p67) has a 1950’s photo of the Arrow Theatre. The Arrow Theatre was located on the east side of N. Main Street, off 1st Street, just a couple doors away from the Tower Theatre. The 250-seat Arrow Theatre was opened by 1926. It was destroyed by fire on November 17, 1937.

A new Arrow Theatre was built in a Streamline Moderne style to the plans of architect Burl Terrell, opening on May 18, 1939 with Robert Taylor in “Stand Up and Fight”. It was destroyed by fire on April 30, 1945. It was rebuilt and reopened in 1946. The Arrow Theatre was still open in 1957.

Recent images of Main Street indicate the Arrow Theatre may have been replaced by a newer building.

The Arrow Theatre was burned down not once, but twice.

On the same day Hitler was assassinated (April 30, 1945), the Arrow Theatre was once again destroyed by another fire, this time it was originated from a trash fire. Throughout the first 4 months of 1945, there have been 3 fires in Broken Bow involving theaters. This is the third of them. Although it was not opened at that time, they’re prepared for a showing of Abbott and Costello’s “Lost In A Harem” (unknown if subjects were added).

The theater would later reopen the following year.

The Arrow Theatre closed for the final time on August 29, 1951 with “Quebec” (unclear if any short subjects were added) due to the opening of the Chief Theatre. The building became a relocated Bargain Center in January 1956.
