In Stockholm city centre, the Royal Bio opened on 16th October 1938. Seating was provided for 916, with 650 in the orchestra and 266 in the balcony. It was modernised in 1969 and in 1973 it was acquired by the Sandrew circuit and was tripled, re-opening as Sandrew 1-3 with seating for 498, 79 & 79 In 1981 a fourth screen was added with 27 seats. It was relinquished by them in 2004, then taken on by the Astoria circuit. It was re-named Astoria Bio from 2006 until closure the following year.
By 2018 the building was occupied by a branch of John Scott’s, which comprises a restaurant with live music, a bowling alley and a shuffleboards and billiards room. In a nice touch, the cinema’s brightly lit canopy is still in use.
