The Ormonde Cinema opened on 24th August 1954 and had 1,000 seats, with a stepped section at the back rather than a balcony, and was equipped with a Zeiss Ernemann sound system. It closed on 30th July 1978 and was demolished for the Plaza Shopping Centre although a new Ormonde Cinema (now Odeon) was provided as part of the scheme.
