Picturedrome

Located in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. The Picturedrome was really the actual chapel the street was named after. It was converted into a cinema, opening on 30th September 1909. The electricity supply was generated by a dynamo driven by a gas engine. Seating was for 350, some of the seats being the old wooden chapel pews. It was closed around 1914/1915, but reopened on 9th January 1916, operating on Sunday’s only. It had closed by 1918.

The site of Chapel Street and the former Wesleyan Chapel is now occupied by a branch of the B&M Bargains Store.
