Savoy Cinema

Located in Edenderry, County Offaly. First listed in the Kine Year Book of 1946 the Savoy Cinema was originally run by McNally Cinemas but generally associated with the O’Brien family from the early-1950’s onwards. It had 750 seats and was equipped with an RCA sound system. It closed in 1994 and was later the subject of a play focusing on the last night of the cinema, performed in 2004 at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. The building is still standing but its use is unclear.
