Emer Cinema

Located in Blaney, County Cork. The Emer Cinema was founded by a group of businessmen and opened with a private screening of “How Green was My Valley” on 30th September 1950. It hosted a dance for the general public the night after but the first film to be shown to the public was “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” on 3rd October 1950. The hall held around 400 comfortably but was often reported as overpacked. It was later bought by Christy Kelleher who screened films during the week and used it as a ballroom at weekends, later transforming it into a knitwear factory for Aran jumpers. He sold the building around 1974 to finance the purchase of a mill. The building is now occupied by a joinery workshop.

The business is called Waterloo Joinery. They make bespoke pieces, such as stairs, sash windows, gates etc. 2 very talented guys from what I can see on their Facebook profile. There’s an up-to-date picture of the workshops also, inside and outside.
