Not A Lot… I Just Got Interested With Former Locations.
This Theater Replaced A 7-Screener Called The Showplace 1-7 (Opened: September 1973 As A Twin, Converted To A Quad In 1978, Converted Into 7-Screens In 1987, And Closed In Early 1996) Which Will Have Its CinemaTreasures Page Soon.
May 31st, 1996 grand opening ad in the photo section.
This might have been owned by Rhyan Management, who had other locations across the northern Chicago suburbs. It never was Kerasotes. The “Showplace” name was used by several independent companies; in Evansville, Indiana, Kerasotes had to call their 16-plex “Stadium” since the local chain already called their theatres “Showplace.”

I recalled vaguely that Crystal Lake was where the teenagers get slaughtered in the Friday the 13th movies, so I looked it up. The chamber of commerce must love that.
Here is a 1983 photo:

Does anyone have a pic of this theatre. I may have been here as a young child during a summer visit with my cousins in Crytal Lake. This is where I first saw Grease. I rememeber my cousins and I singing the songs from the movie that summer. I had a blast.

Originally a 2-screen built around 1972, it was increased to 4 around 1980, and 3 more were added in the late 80s. The 8th screen was the old El Tovar/Raue Center downtown. The old complex was demolished in 1996 after the 16 opened. I have to wonder if the 2-screen was originally a Kerasotes as the Showplace name is generally theirs.
