Queen's Cinema in 1975

Located at the corner of Arkwright Street and Queen’s Road with the main entrance on Arkwright Street and the side of the auditorium on Queen’s Road.

Midland Electric Bioscope opened Saturday 10th April 1909, closed Friday 23rd December 1909. Reopened as Midland Electric Theatre Thursday 21st December 1911. Closed Saturday 29th June 1935.

Re-opened as Queen’s Cinema Monday 22nd January 1936. Closed Tuesday 4th January 1955 - rest of week’s run cancelled. Auditorium was used as a car showroom and the foyer became a retail unit. Presently (April 2019) derelict, awaiting re-development. In August 2024 planning permission was granted to demolish the building for student accommodation to be built on the site.

Planning permission given in May 2020 to demolish the building and replace it with a nine storey apartment block.
