Located in Taum, County Galway. The Odeon Cinema was set up by John Doris and Matthew Lyons, later known as Midland Amusements, and opened on 17th December 1942 with Errol Flynn in “They Died with their Boots On”. It had 836 seats and a Western Electric(WE) sound system fitted. It was the second Odeon set up by the pair, the first one being in Longford. As well as films it also hosted concerts and boxing tournaments. It closed in September 1980 and was immediately earmarked for a dance-hall although this was opposed.
Sean Fallon, who ran the gents outfitters next door, bought the building in 1983 with plans to extend his empire but it was on the market again two years later. The building is now occupied by a shop.
