Savoy Cinema

Located in Balbriggan, County Dublin. The Savoy Cinema was opened on December 19, 1944 with Claude Raines in “The Phantom of the Opera”. It didn’t get listed in the Kine Year Book until 1949. It was owned by Tailteann Theatres and it seated 750 patrons with an Ernemann, later Western Electric(WE) sound system fitted. It was closed in June 1974, but reopened as the Europa Cinema on 9th August 1974 and finally closed in 1977.

It was converted to a community centre in 1996. The centre comprises a gym, meeting rooms and sports hall and organises everything form bingo to blood donor sessions.

Opened 19 December 1944 with ‘Phantom of the Opera’. Operated by Tailteann Theatres, the company’s third cinema after the Savoys at Kells and Rush. Closed June 1974 reopened as the Europa 9 August 1974 with 800 seats, closed 1977.
